About SHORE

SHORE (Sharing Habitat and Outdoor Recreation Expertise) is a private online community for people whose work involves managing recreation around sensitive habitats and species.

It was set up so that practitioners can share practical experience, ask questions, and learn from projects elsewhere in the country. Typical topics include visitor engagement, disturbance to birds and other wildlife, dog walking, signage, monitoring, legislation and mitigation strategies.

The idea came out of the national mitigation meet-up in Portsmouth in 2025. Discussions there kept returning to the same themes: coordinating at a national level, working together across organisations, sharing expertise and resources, and avoiding duplication of work that someone else has already done.
